HACKERS – AN APOLOGY

Many of you will have received an e-mail purporting to be from me. Most of you will realise – alerted by the terrible grammar, I hope, as much as the content – that it was in fact from some idiot hackers who have compromised my mail.

All I can say is sorry; it stresses me out. I stopped using Hotmail because the same thing happened. Now I am G-mail-nervous. I’ve taken steps to stop this happening again and I really hope that they work.

Don't worry about it, these things happen. Do let Gmail know, so they can try and block it. Urgh, I got about 400 spam messages yesterday, a deluge, all of a sudden. And a few people even got a virus through Facebook! What is this world coming to?

Sorry to hear about your problems, WRW! I hope you reported it to gmail - this sort of thing shouldn't happen!

Thanks guys. It's pretty infuriating. I've had to spend the day mailing people to apologise. Some people don't get the fact that I do NOT deal in electronics, or whatever it was. And that it's not my fault!
I've reported etc so hopefully it won't happen again.
I can't believe someone's Facebook was targeted. That's just shitty. I was feeling so safe on Gmail. Sigh.

No worries - it was obviously a hacker job, and these things happen to anyone who lives on the Internet.

But are you sure you can't fix me up with a cut-price laptop from Nizhny Novgorod? :)

That IS infuriating. There are so many idiots out there messing about with other people's identities and computers that it's hard not to get angry about it. Sympathies.

Thanks OASI and Oslo,
If I could, I'd fix myself up first, OASI! I'd love a new laptop!
My partner is in IT so he's going to clear my laptop today (scary) and make sure it's a virus / hacker free zone, before re-loading it.
Meanwhile I will be computer-less for, oh, hours! Eek!

Oh, that is horrible to be offline, even in a good cause - I feel slightly unwell if I can't get my wee fix of what's going on the world!

Best of luck with the clean up!

I got your mail too ;-) Nobody could think you sent that surely.

Here is a tip. There is a website called www.sandboxie.com which allows you to download a tool to run the internet without downloading any files to your PC. Virues etc. cannot get on youur PC if you use this.

Absolutely not your fault, WRW. Spam is a fact of life. I got a spate of spam "comments" on blog posts, and I thought the old word verification thingygummyjig was designed to make those impossible. Tsk.
