PARIS READING
Early on Sunday morning I will fly to Paris. I'm giving a reading at the Centre Culturel Irlandais on Tuesday night at 7.30pm. I'm also staying at the Centre. This is my first gig in Paris and I'm completely excited about it.
I've been going to Paris once, twice, three times a year for the last 10 years, all thanks to Michael O'Leary and his cheap Ryanair flights. I won't hear a word against the man. But, it feels different to be going for work.
When I first got serious about writing (i.e. trying to get published, attending workshops etc.) I met an older poet who regularly read in Paris. I remember thinking I want that life.
I'll report on the trip when I get back.

Wow! Have a wonderful time, and enjoy "that life"!
Thanks, Sara, I intend to! I'm giddy with excitement. Must calm down...
And now you are enjoying some of 'that life.' Best of luck :)
Indeed I am, B, and it's lovely. Talk soon. N x
Isn't that wonderful, that memory of the thought of wanting that life, and now you are in that life? Fabulous! Being here in France, several of us have been discussing our romantic passion for all things French, especially Parisien. It's so alluring, although, as with Jerusalem, I think there is Paris in My Imagination and Paris the Real City...and they are not always the same.
Have a wonderful, amazing, parisien, glorious time!
have a brilliant trip, N. Enjoy...

good luck! and.... i want that life.
Well done for achieving a dream. I sat in a restaurant in Kilkenny a while back and Colm Toibin, Olivia O'Leary (RTE) and another writer, whose name I now can't remember (typical), were at an adjacent table. In a rare moment of clarity I realised that my dream was to have the kind of life where I was sitting with them at the same table. Basically I want to hang out with writers and media types, preferably in Paris :-) Bon voyage.
