THE SHOp NEEDS SUPPORT
OK, I know ALL arts organisations are feeling the pinch, but The SHOp poetry magazine sent such a lovely plea with their latest issue - and they are so deserving - I thought I'd bring them to your attention.
Poet Bernard O'Donoghue said The SHOp is 'unquestionably the most beautiful poetry magazine now in existence.' And it is always a very attractive production. As a poet, you need to a) support them by buying an issue or subscribing, and b) try to get published by them. If you are not a poet (or even if you are) maybe you might send them a few euro as an Xmas prezzie. They lost out on significant funding this year and the Arts Council has warned them that 2009 will see 'a significant reduction' in their grant. I know it's the same all over but this magazine is a true gem.

I agree, it's always full of fine work. I've taken note!
That's a feckin shame - there's no doubt its a handsome journal and nearly every time I discover a new poet, they seem to have featured there early in their career. I'll get on it.
Good on you, Barbara and PJ. I was in Germany for a few days and all the poets I spoke to were similarly enthused about The SHOp. It just would be such a shame if it went by the wayside due to recessionary issues. We need such lovely mags now more than ever.
Hi Women Rule Writer - There was a hilarious mix up the other day, when someone told me that they had a poem in the shop, and I thought they meant a shop, not the magazine - anyway this has given rise the first ever "International put your poem in a shop" month. - my blog explains it...hope you'll take part! Support poems in shops as well as the shop!!
I read about this on your blog just tonight, Niamh. I love the idea and I will endeavour to take part! Nice one.
Looking forward to seeing the results of that!
