FUTURE OF IWC - HAVE YOUR SAY

There will be an Open Public Meeting to discuss the future of the Irish Writers' Centre on

Saturday 27th June at 3.30 p.m. in the Irish Writers' Centre

For the last few weeks the Board of the Irish Writers' Centre has been consulting widely with individual writers and with people interested in literature and the arts generally. It has also been engaged with sister organisations in the literature field. The purpose of this extensive consultation is to ascertain what role, if any, the Irish Writers' Centre should play in the cultural life of the country in the future. At a meeting on the 14 July, the Board will consider all the options and all the recommendations submitted.

If you have any recommendations regarding the future functions, activities, responsibilities, etc, of the Irish Writers' Centre and have not had a chance to submit them already, this open meeting will offer you the opportunity of doing so.

Based on my own experience with the IWC, I would be very surprised if that meeting is in any way productive.

Maybe you should go and relate your experiences?
I've had mixed experiences: initially, very good, some years ago.
Then, unanswered emails over and over for a long time.
I also objected to the massive increase in their fees for workshops. By email. Perhaps they blocked me?!
I would love to see an efficient, proactive centre. With feedback maybe they could achieve that?

Having had to stop teaching classes for them because of how badly they treat their tutors, I'm not particularly planning on going. :)

I would love to see the centre working efficiently but I really would be genuinely surprised if they take feedback on board, as feedback has never been lacking and has been ignored. I really do hope they treat those attending and their ideas and comments with the respect they deserve, though.

Oh gosh, Claire. That's bad.

I wonder, though, if the problem before was with staff as opposed to the board of management?
I don't know. Anyway, I wish them luck.
I doubt if I'll make the meeting as I live in Galway and have a new baby, but I'd love to hear from anyone who'd been there.
