BACK FROM DERWENT & MELUSINE POEMS

A quick post to say I am back in half-a-piece and one book richer from the Derwent Poetry Festival which was magical, fun, relaxed and wonderful. (Half-a-piece because me and The Baby both have colds and are exhausted - but happy!) I will catch up with you all later.

Our town has suffered in the floods so there is all sorts of issues with school closures, no drinking water etc. to be getting on with. Plus the Dublin launch of Nude is on Wednesday. No rest for the wicked or the sick...

I hope to write a proper report on the festival asap. Meanwhile, I have two poems on the Melusine AKA Woman in the 21st Century site, an online journal of literature and art by women (but not only women) about women here.

It was lovely to meet you and your family.

We went through the no drinking water nightmare when this area was flooded a couple of years back - I hope it is over quickly for you, it must be so much harder with a baby in the house.

Loved both poems Nuala, esp the Esmerelda one. V. refreshing ending too. Poets rarely choose the right man in their writing at least!!

Kar - our neighbours' business is under water. It's terrible. The town square is closed and so is the train station. At least part of the new road is open for drivers. It's all v weird.

Angela - it was great to meet you. We never drink the water here anyway but I'm not sure if you are allowed shower or not. The water is pee coloured (!?)

Mary - thanks a million. Glad you like!

Liz - if you haven't odrdered it yet, hold that though. I'll send you a copy.

Barbara - cheers. See you Wednesday!

When we had the floods, we had no water at all - none for flushing toilets, cooking, washing - completely dry taps. I'm never convinced that knowing it could be worse is really a consolation, but there it is.
