OK, I know it's teeny-weeny but here's the first glimpse of the cover for my novel You from the publisher New Island's website. More here.

Although knowing exactly how your book cover will look like months before publication is a little like knowing the sex of your child four months into pregnancy.

Thank you everyone!

Anti-Laureate - I'm a firm believer in knowing the sex of the baby before the big day.

So, yes, all of those who asked if I knew if Juno was a girl while I was preggers and I said 'No', I was LYING! Hah!

Great cover! You'll have to build another shelf for your books, soon!

Indeedy, V. I'm in the market for a lovely, posh bookshelf. One day!

Lovely!

Thanks Liz & Eimear.

I was shown 3 covers. This was my favourite. I conducted a little survey and everyone I asked plumped for this one. It was also the favourite of the editor and marketing person.

It's beautiful, and the title really calls out and says, Read me, Read me!

Hi how are you?

I was looking through your blog, and I found it interesting, and inspiring to me, so I thought why not leave you a comment. I have a blog also obviously and would like to invite you to become my blog friend.

I mostly post about the Southern California experience through the perspective of my art. Maybe you can become my pal, and follow, and I can also follow you, if that is okay.

Well I hope to hear from you soon... :)

Rachel - it IS exciting. Heart stoppingly so. The character is wistful so it suits. I love the cover, I love the menacing sky, the grass. It's all relevant. N x

Kar and Anna May - thanks you both. Your good wishes mean a lot. N x x

I'm really glad every detail on the cover is important - that's something I think about! Too much possibly - to an odd level of distraction! I know it's ridiculous but I think about what covers my books would have..wish I could design them but then I think better to leave that side to others...anyway, got to get those publishers interested first! Totally spend too much time looking at book covers. Thanks for your encouragement, btw, I've stuck up your last comment on a post-it note to remind me I can do this! Just delete this comment!

I am OBSESSED with book covers too, Rachel. I think many writers are. I was lucky to get to choose the image for Nude. That was v unusual & the process of trawling around images online was great fun.

O.K I know this comment is a bit late, sorry! Do you publish late comments??
Anyway I got a Google alert yesterday morning with the link to the New Island "coming soon" section for the site. Very exciting!!
I cannot wait to read it.

Oh what a wonderful cover! You must be thrilled. I've always wanted to know the gender of my children as soon as possible too. Amazed by people who can stay neutral until the birth. Sorry off topic. Love the cover :)

Thanks Johanna! I like that time, pre-birth, to adjust to the idea of boy or girl.
