NEW IRISH LANGUAGE PAPER SEEKS WRITERS

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh has been named as the Project Manager for the new Irish Language newspaper Gaelscéal. The paper is a joint venture between the Connacht Tribune and Eo Teilifís, who recently won the contract from Foras na Gaeilge to produce a weekly national newspaper in Irish. They are now actively seeking to recruit an Editor, a team of writers and design team to develop Ireland’s newest, brightest and most relevant weekly Irish language newspaper.

In a statement issued by the two companies they state that they are delighted to have secured the skills of someone as multi-talented as Ó Clochartaigh to drive the project forward. ‘He has vast experience in Irish language circles, in the media, arts and community sectors. Gaelscéal will be setting a new direction in Irish language media when published before the end of March and we couldn’t have found a more suitable candidate to realise this vision’, they said. Gaelscéal will offer readers across the island of Ireland and abroad a fresh perspective on current affairs; international, national and regional news; education; sport; lifestyle & leisure and Irish-language affairs

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh said he is extremely excited by this new and challenging venture. ‘I really believe that the time is right for a high quality publication which will cater for the needs of Irish speakers all across the island and abroad. The next step in the process is the recruitment of a highly motivated production team including an Editor, Writers and Designers. There are a lot of highly talented people out there and we want to hear from anyone who feels they have a positive role to play in developing this project’, said Ó Clochartaigh.

Online, Gaelscéal will be an interactive meeting place in Irish using audio, video and still images in addition to the high quality writing of the newspaper. Its blogs and forums will provide opportunities for all interested in a wide range of topics to air their views. A particular emphasis will be the use of digital media to develop educational and other material.
