STOP 3 ON MY VIRTUAL TOUR FOR 'PORTRAIT'

Please join me over at Castle EEjit with the inimitable Total Feckin' EEjit where I am on the third stop of my Red Car Tour for my poetry pamphlet Portrait of the Artist with a Red Car. There is champagne, red cars galore and a bit of chat about poetry. He's calling it 'The Hooley for Nooly'. Loads of fun!

I can just see you whizzing along the N4 in that beauty!

I left a little comment over at TFE's. I love that poem 'Turning'.

RE:you're Ma's comment about 'give it up for a while' there's far too much passion in your writing to stop for any length of time and it would be a loss to the rest of us.

Oh I can see me too!! Whizzzzzzz! Love it! Does J still have her Mini?

Thanks for following the tour! N x

She doesn’t unfortunately, she had to trade it up for a mammymobile. The mini looks good but you’d never fit a nappy bag in it let alone a buggie!

Practicality. It's such a pain. Knocks a woman's style into outer space.;(

Hi Nuala - thanks for popping by my blog on your way to Castle EEjit - have a lovely time - see you there.

My three-old son got red and yellow toy minis last year from his granddad so that now we only ever refer to Mini Coopers as 'Aidan's car' when we see them. As in, 'Oh there's a blue Aidan's car'. I'd love to have a red Aidan's car some day, in my post three child seats in the back life.
'Short Circuit' finally arrived today. Look forward to reading your chapter.

No worries, Weaver - I'll see you at the castle. N x

Johanna - that's so cute. I call them 'my car' when I see a red one. Sad.

I hope Short Circuit lives up. There's lots of good stuff in it - Paul Magrs chapter had me tittering.

Loving the tour Nuala! My mother had a red VW Beetle for about ten yrs and we all loved it. She gave it to my brother when he started working in a bank in Tuam (after he'd been getting a lift home on Fri evenings from a guy who stopped in every pub along the way to Limerick, - this was almost considered normal in the late seventies.)Later he sold it to his best friend Michael, who lived two doors up. When he in turn moved to South Africa he sold it back to my sister Catherine, who eventually sold it on when she bought my car (green Renault 5) when I was moving to Montreal. After that, whenever Ca's 6yr old daughter, Sarah, saw the red Beetle chugging around Limerick she would burst into tears of grief and loss. Such is the power of A Red Car!

That's a fantastic story, Lucy! I love it. Sadly, my red car ended badly (as outlined in the title poem in the pamphlet!!) But, I still covet another one.

And re the drinking and driving - I remember Sunday pub crawls with my Uncle all too well! It was totally normal to drink and drive. The mind boggles now.

Strangely (or not) I've never coveted a mini - being rather well endowed in the leg department and all but I did go to college with a boy who had one and he must have been 6'5" if an inch - the sight of him extracting himself from it was awe inspiring! I had a Morris 1000 - duck egg blue, with little reflector arrows in lieu of indicator lights!

Oh, your Morris sounds gorgeous, Rachel. My childhood friend's family had one - cream with wood trim. I adored that car even though it smelt of dog.

Apropos the drinking and driving, Nuala; that person I referred to eventually realised he had a serious problem, gave up the drink and is now a much sought after psychotherapist! Also, Michael returned fron South Africa after 17 yrs with a beautiful wife and two lovely children and resumed his close friendship with my brother. My mother went on to have at least three more red cars in her lifetime, all VWs,(Golfs,aw!) and all red, each of which she promised to leave me upon her demise. Suprisingly, she did actually mention it in her will but must have forgotten that she had given her last car to my niece Sarah(of the tears)during the previous year! Phew, who knew the mention of a red car could bring on a whole family history?? Not to mention a possible need to visit the emminent non drinking psychotherapist (see above)....!

My dear uncle gave up the driving instead of the drink ;)
Funny re your Mam and the will. Very interesting insight into family and red cars. Thanks L. N x
