Abridged 0 – 21 - Call for poetry & art subs

Abridged is a beautifully produced magazine out of Derry. They are looking for poems and art on the theme of Magnolia. Yes, Magnolia - the queen of paint colours. Closing date 21st May.
See below for their call for subs:

"In the world of colour charts and iconic English sheepdogs, Magnolia represents the fence-sitting hue that neither offends or accosts the senses. Adorning the walls of TurnKey packaged homes of first-time buyers or haunting the corners of final destination rest homes of howls and despair, Magnolia stalks us from the cradle to the grave. It is the bastard offspring of white: it is the disgraced sibling of beige. It is nothingness yet it is everywhere. It is Abridged 0 – 21.

Abridged, the poetry/art magazine is looking for submissions for its Magnolia issue. A maximum of 3 poems may be submitted of any length. Art can be up to A4 size and can be in any media. It should be at least 300 dpi. Submissions can be emailed to abridged@ymail.com or posted to: Abridged c/o The Verbal Arts Centre, Stable Lane and Mall Wall, Bishop Street Within, Derry BT48 6PU. Closing date for submission is May 21st."

Hmmmmm......a distant sibling of pink. I might give this some thought. Thanks (again) for sharing Nuala.

I am here to serve, Móna! Or something like that. Writing to order is hard, though, right? G'luck if you decide to try it.

The Magnolia tone is far from it Magnolia Tree cousin, of defined refinement and essence pure. Is it the milked-down version of tint that offends the ocular senses because Magnolia tm is a pervasive species of paint colour similar to zebra mussels? Magnolia is like The Stepford Wives it has no place in the sane houses of womanry or in the cubbies of the everyday blah-land. Maybe if Magnolia were true to tint a holy gathering from nature's realism and not a Roccocco version of deluxe coming from the poet's purse of deep purple rather than from the washed out and continually tertiaried out of existence there indeed be more a true colour represented as Magnolia there. Maybe some colour-blind fop had to have this colour and thought "oh how cute". Back in the day of Magnolia's Birth of Venus, way back in the dirty 30's Magnolia's hue was akin to porn. Sadly, Magnolia's premiment presence reminded one of a rather large ass bared which became dirty too soon, as ever known surface of the earth was covered with this disgraceful colour. In the doorway of the mind, Magnolia is akin to insanity. As it stands now Magnolia is a damn liar-colour and should return to the carpetbaggers' colour wheel of paint sampler. What's next? A poem about Williamsburg Blue?
