ADVICE FROM RODDY DOYLE

"Do not place a photograph of your favourite author on your desk, especially if the author is one of the famous ones who committed suicide." Roddy Doyle.

Guess who is over my desk?

Prize for the first correct answer, which may be find-able on a recent post on this blog, if you look closely...

The prize? A signed copy of my poetry pamphlet Portrait of the Artist with a Red Car.

You do not strike me as the kind of gal that would have a photo of Charles Dickens on your desk so I am going with (a) Yourself (and rightly so) or (b) George Orwell.

Michael - yes! You win! Send me your address via the contact page on my website. Congrats!

Kar - ROddy was giving advice to writers. It's an odd one...

Móna - I have a pic of Dickens desk over my desk. But neither he nor Orwell died by suicide. And, to my knowledge, neither have I!!

At least no one could come back to Roddy saying - your advice was rotten and cost me this publishing deal, or something equally dramatic and daft! Um, I took the picture down and I have a totally uninspiring patch of wall which isn't as faded as the rest!! Darn it!!!! See, not quite the same....Useless but intriguin advice...

Anyway, thank you for letting me know about the FISH shortlist!! ANd for the Yay!!
