The entry fee's gone up to €20! That's a bit saucy ...

€20 is a huge amount of money. What was it before?

€20!! madness. I want to set up an award where there's no entry fee. somehow.

I thought twas €12 last year but that was actually the flash fiction one - the short story prize was €20 last year too.

The WOW Awards are cheekiest of all I think - €10 entry fee and no cash prize!

Go for it Jessica you have my wholehearted support.I'm reluctant to tell everyone to 'boycott' these comps, but really in the great scheme of things, what is the point of them?

On second thoughts no, fuck it ,I'm calling for a boycott!

Have a look a the details for the Picador prize (poetry only) - no fee, £1000 prize, publication of a collection by Picador - to be edited by Don Paterson! But be quick - 10 page submissions by 1 September! (Only for poets who haven't had a full length collection published - pamphlets and magazine poems ok)

Nice to get a few mentions for "W.H." in the bio's for their "Alumni" but had to smile at the bizarre misattribution of "New Short Stories 1". It was NOT edited by that famous author, only little old "no kudos" me, and that's not exactly the right publisher either. No big deal in the scheme of things but if life wasn't already a bit too short I'd probably send them a correction for that.

Anyway if anyone would prefer a much cheaper competition, practically guaranteed to run at a loss every year... You can follow my profile links and find one such.

TFE - I don't think you'll get a boycott going, somehow. Entry fees are extortinate. Occupational hazard.

Ossian - let's make it easy for them.
