REVIEW OF *YOU* AND INTERVIEW

 Photo: Joe O'Shaughnessy

There's a review of my novel You in this week's Connacht Tribune by Gearóid O'Brien, accompanying an article about me and my writing by Judy Murphy. Judy interviewed me for the piece. She calls me 'a young mum' in it. How sweet. I feel like an old hag most of the time.

The Trib's photographer came out to my house to take my pic. I made an effort but I still manage to look weird. I genuinely hate getting my photo taken - I can't seem to smile without looking extremely nervous and half-crazed (as you can see).

The article is very nice, I must say, and the review is positive. These things always make me feel a bit glowy and a bit mortified. You can read some of the article online here.

Lucy - aw, you are making me blush. Har har.

I don't think you look crazed. You look nice. And your writing space beats mine -- curled on corner of bed, pushing stack of clean laundry aside with my toes (Max sleeps in my former and soon-to-be-again office!)

You look gorgeous! I love "at home" photos! The interview is refreshingly friendly and it's great that you're getting the recognition you deserve.

Lory - empathy. I hope you get your work space back asap. Mine is a corner of the dining room. Our study is not insulated so too cold for winter.

Rachel - thank you.

Kar - only part of it is available online. You have to subscribe to read it all.

Now, that's a really nice photo of you and yet you're not impressed with it. I have that in common with ye, I detest getting my photo taken because no matter what I do, I always seem to have my ugly face on - big nose, yukky teeth - ugh!

Great to hear that You is still getting talked about, puns et al :)

Great dress and lovely photo - not crazed at all! (half or otherwise!)

Interesting article, would liked to have read it all... how you get any writing done at all is a miracle, so well done you! I'm glad the article adressed the nitty gritty things I'm really, really curious about i.e. how do other people manage to juggle kids and writing time. Hope you'll have more than ten hours soon! Really liked your writing space too, inspiring, thanks for posting.

Thanks ladies :)

I wasn't fishing for compliments - I look 'rabbit-in-the headlights' in the pic; I can see it muyself. I just find getting photographed v uncomfortable unless it's by my friend Karen.

I love my little writing corner - I feel so comfortable here.

E - the lamp was a wedding prezzie. V swish. N x
