GOING TO THE ÁRAS

Michael Tea Higgins cosy by Virginia Costello
I'm very excited to be going to the Áras tomorrow to meet Michael D. Higgins, our lovely President Poet. I've been working on a poetry in schools project in Westmeath for the last few months, doing workshops with students then judging their final poems. Other counties involved are Longford and Offaly.

The President has invited us all to his house tomorrow - all the teachers, writers, students and librarians involved. Excitement. My fellow poets are Noel Monahan and Jean O'Brien. I plan to report back on our trip to the Park. I wonder will he use the Michael Tea cosy for the tay?!

Ooh Nuala, enjoy your visit with Michael D! I bet he has great biscuits to wash down the tea. (Hope someone asks you to lunch tomorrow just so you can hear yourself saying that you have a previous engagement at the Aras!) Give my best to the man himself!

Heh heh, I wish someone would ask me for lunch any day ;)
I am curiously nervous about the visit. I hope I get some beauty sleep :)

Perhaps you saw him on 'The Den' recently, interviewed by an 11 year old girl? She asked him if he was settled in his new environment...No, he replied, 'my library is all mixed up, in Galway I knew exactly where all my books were, now I can't find the one I'm looking for. And sometimes I forget where the toilet is!'
We love him so.

I didn't see him on The Den, MM. But I love what he said. Sweet :)
