PARIS LITERARY PRIZE 2012

The green door into Shakespeare & Co
The Paris Literary Prize is open again for novellas; the prize is run by gorgeous Parisian bookshop Shakespeare & Co. The prize money is generous (€10,000 1st prize, 2 runners-up of €2000 each). The prize does NOT include publication and there's a €50 entry fee.

I am still looking forward to reading last year's winner Rosa Rankin-Gee's novella The Last Kings of Sark. I hope it appears soon.

Info for 2012 below - the rest is on the site and is quite detailed (you must include a pitch) so you will want to go there. Basic info here:

The Paris Literary Prize is an international prize for unpublished writers,
awarded for a novella.  Any topic is welcome.

Shakespeare and Company has a long-standing tradition of opening its doors to aspiring writers and in keeping with that philosophy, the 10,000€ Paris Literary Prize is open to writers from around the world who have not yet published a book.
We have long been admirers of the novella, a genre which includes such classics as The Old Man and the Sea, Animal Farm, L'Étranger and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie. The Paris Literary Prize celebrates this small but perfectly formed genre while giving a unique opportunity to writers whose voices have not yet been heard.
All three winners will be invited to a weekend stay in Paris to attend the Prize ceremony and read from their work at a special event at Shakespeare and Company.
