I am fizzing waiting for Baz Luhrmann's movie of The Great Gatsby. I can't wait. I've loved Fitzgerald's work since I was a kid and I am certainly not averse to a screenful of Leo DiCaprio.
I re-read The Great Gatsby last year to gear up for the film coming out. I was in Croatia while reading it so West Egg in the book is now tied in my mind with a hot, strawberry scented Zagreb. It is an exquisite novel; such a great story of obsession, delivered in sentence after gorgeous sentence:
'They were careless people, Tom and Daisy; they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made.’
Oh, yeah! Bring it on!

I agree, talking about a novel before its finished ruins it, take the energy out of it - I've learnt that the hard way:)
It's a hard lesson, Niamh.
For me, I am clueless enough in the thick of a novel (as to what it is about/where it is going) without having other opinions messing me up.
It amazes me that some writers workshop unfinished novels.
I cannot wait for the Gatsby either, it opens in Carlow on Thurs! For once, they get a good film quickly! Heard a great review of it yesterday. Studied the novel in U.C.D so looking forward to seeing how it transfer to screen time. It's the clothes, the hair, the fashion, the glamour! I cannot wait! I will remember never to ask you what you are working on so...;)
I love it all too, Rozz. The glamour! And the brilliance of FSF's prose. I love Baz L too so am hopeful of a great film :)
