READING & NUDE

I'm reading this Saturday the 25th July at Boyle Arts Festival, Boyle, County Roscommon. I will do a bilingual poetry reading as the emphasis on Saturday at the fest is all things Irish.

Venue: Presbyterian Church, Boyle

Time: 4pm

My new short fiction collection Nude arrived yesterday from Salt. Wow. It's surreal: after three years of writing, one year of submitting, six months of tightening and proofing etc, to finally have the finished book in my paw. I'm proud of it. Am I allowed a little pride?! Pride is a very un-Irish (lapsed) Catholic thing. Not allowed. (Or maybe it's very Irish lapsed Catholic?!)

Anyway, although publication date is September the 1st, it appears to be already available to buy from Salt's site here for the bargain price of Stg £7.19. Sure who'd be without it?

Now I have to get cracking on the promotional side of things. I have 2 launches organised, 1 launch in the process of being organised, 1 workshop & 6 readings coming up. I am determinded that this book will sell, sell, sell and that Salt will therefore keep me in their stable of writers. Here's hoping!

Well done on the book and good luck with it all, you have a lot on your plate with the little one too! Take care of yourself in the midst of it all.

Thanks, Beedle. Yes, on the one hand I am covered in baby puke, morbidly tired and living in a messy house. On the other I am trying to do PR things for the book and looking forward to doing readings (baby in tow cos I'm feeding her...) Life feels slightly crazed and split in half. But great too!

Hope baby doesn't pipe a tune during your reading, but if she does, hope it's harmonious!

Best of luck - your poetry is fantastic, is worth its Salt, and can take care of itself - you take care of you and yours!

Baby daddy will be there to whisk her outside if she kicks off. Which she probably will...

Hooray and congrats, Nuala, delighted for you and it is a lift to you really, with the baba and all. Good luck on 29th, girl and here's to Nude!

Congrat. again, Nuala...it really is a terrific looking book and from reading the first story online, the inside is pretty terrific too.
Enjoy the festival...sounds good!

And sure thing regarding being proud - we got to rescue pride from the humility in Catholicism ; )

Thanks B! Veering between being half asleep and feeling all excited. V odd...

Liz - yes indeedy. I think pride/boasting doesn't come naturally to Irish Catholics, so we sometimes do it badly. I'm trying to strike a balance - getting the info out there without coming across as madly cocky or up my own a***. Or something. It's HARD! I want to do the best by the book but I don't want to look 'pushy'. Sigh. Maybe I just need to swallow they shyness and promote the book like a loony tune. Help??!! How??!!

It is. Hard to take in though, somehow. I can't wait to have more copies and to start touring it, promoting it, SELLING it!!

Whee, what a beautiful book! May you sell many, many copies..! I think I have a reviewer for it for the Short Review, so we will do what we can to help! Enjoy the festival.

Thanks Tania - that's great!
I still have to prep my reading. Harder for poetry than for short fiction...!
