NUDE IN REVIEW

Two reviews of Nude appeared this week. One rather strange one - in its unreviewy-ness - in The Short Review here. The reviewer liked the humour in the book but the rest of what she said was..I don't know...kind of incomprehensible. Not sure what to make of it.

I also reviewed Simon Van Booy's book Love Begins in Winter for this issue of The Short Review here.

And Nude was also reviewed in The Sunday Business Post by Julian Fleming. He aid it was 'affecting', that the prose is 'fluid and descriptive' and, ultimately, that the book is 'a success'.

Unmothered, from which the pulled quote comes, ... bodyslams the reader

High Praise there for my favorite story.

It’s a bad review from the POV of the reviewer, badly written, a lot of the sentences don’t make any sense! It tells me nothing of the book. It’s her opinion of the book rather then a review of it. I get the impression she doesn’t read a lot of short fiction and doesn’t particularly like it. When I read a review I want to know about the book, the writing, the characters etc., not the reviewers likes and dislikes....

...like your review of of Simon Van Booy, loved it! have it ordered the book and can’t wait! Your review did exactly what it’s supposed to do.

Waiting on a friend to send me the copy of the Sun Biz Post! yay!

On the whole benevolent but....I got the impression that she has a very hide-bound idea of how a short story should be structured. Sh's not a fan of experiment. (an MFA student or graduate?) And is aiming for a "clever" journalistic style which aims to imply more than it is capable of stating plainly.
