Love the insight into the writing life of another writer, Nuala. So, are you a Plath fan? I'm a big fan of her (and Anne Sexton's) mentor, Robert Lowell. Do you write directly onto the laptop? Mine is positioned in the same place on my desk and I find when I want to write with pen and paper, I have to move it aside.

Hi Derek,

Thanks for comenting.

Yes, I'm a big Plath fan, I love her.

I write straight to laptop, often from notes to start with. I don't use this desk for longhand. I write notes in bed or out and about.

hello Nuala. Lovely article, especially history of your desk. Sure agree with you about how hard it is to write in the cold...not comfortable or productive.

I love the ladybug mouse mat - another of your obsessions as far as I remember?! I'm envious of your cluttered corner - long to have a space of my own! And looking forward to August when my little one goes to kindy (places permitting - fingers crossed).

Your NIP sounds ace - cannot wait to read it! And congratulations with the writing award! Super fab news tucked away in there with the postcards and whatnots!

You have made me feel less the loser with my cluttered desk. Writing is my joy yet I don't allow myself the time often enough. Thanks for the wonderful post

I like the tale behind your writing desk. I like its size and its neatness; it’s not too big or small and looks easy enough to move around.

I know the corner of your dining room and I’ve always loved looking and nosing at your desk and its collection of stuff. It intrigues me. And I love hearing you describe the bits and pieces around you, your Da’s painting for example, it’s one of my favourites!

Cool lamp too! You can just about see the rest of the rooms reflection in it..
